What type Freon does my car use?
Vehicles manufactured before the 1994 model year used R-12 (also referred to CFC-12 or Freon). Newer vehicles rely on R-134a refrigerant, also known as HFC-134a.
Do all cars use R-134a?
In most cars that are on the road today, R134a refrigerant makes the A/C system blow cold on hot days. Selected for its low flammability and safety, as well as because it's kinder to the environment, almost every car built since 1994 is equipped with R134 refrigerant.
Is PAG 46 and PAG 100 Compatible?
➔ PAG oils are highly miscible with R134a (PAG oils 46 YF and 100 YF also with R1234yf) and are suitable for lubricating the air conditioning systems of most passenger and commercial vehicles.
How do I know what type of freon I need?
To know which type of refrigerant your air conditioner uses, take a look at the label on the compressor unit outside. It'll clearly tell you which type of refrigerant the unit uses. The newer type is R-410A, and the older type that I've been talking about is R-22, also identified as HCFC-22.
How do you tell if you have R12 or 134a?
To tell if it has been converted you can look for a sticker on the unit under the hood, which would indicate that it is R134a. And you can also look for R134a adapters, which would be located on the charge parts.

One of the earliest signs that the AC compressor is operating with an insufficient oil amount is the emergence of humming noises from your air-conditioning system. At the same time, you may notice that the compressor has suddenly become hard to start.
